Miran Milkovic

In loving memory of

March 29, 1928 - June 8, 2024

Prof. Dr. Miran Milkovic, Ph.D., age 96, of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024 at his home. He was born on March 29, 1928, in Kamnik, Slovenia, to Adam Milkovič and Marija Stancer.

Miran Milkovic is survived by his wife, Angelika Milkovic; his son, Thom Milkovic, and his wife, Jamarie Milkovic; his granddaughter, Lily Milkovic-Jakal, and her husband, Serge Esteve; and his granddaughter, Ashe Milkovic, and her partner, Daniel Ortiz; and his soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Eloisa Ortiz. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Asti Milkovic, and her husband, Arnold Jakal.

Prof. Dr. Miran Milkovic received the M.S. degree in E.E. and the Ph.D. (Dr.Sc.Techn. ETH) degree in E.E. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1956 and 1965, respectively. He has worked in the Research Labs of Grundig A.G. in West Germany and Landis & Gyr A.G. in Switzerland. From 1967 to 1969, he was an adjunct lecturer at the School of Electrical Engineering in Luzern, Switzerland. In 1969, he joined the General Electric Company, working in the Integrated Circuits Center and then GE Corporate Research and Development Center in Schenectady, N.Y., for 20 years. Within that time, he won a Bronze Patent Award (1975), a Silver Patent Award (1977), an IR 100 Award (1976), and a Gold Patent Award (1979). From 1987 to 1990, he was an adjunct professor of Electrical Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a full-time professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1990 to 1996. He has published over 25 technical papers and holds over 100 U.S. and international patents.

Miran was a constant inventor – even in his personal life, a curious philosopher, an understated artist, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and most recently, a great-grandfather.

A memorial was held privately with immediate family and close friends on June 16, 2024.
